Recyclis and the environment


Our way of consumption generates an ever-increasing production of waste.
If we do not manage waste adequately, the future generations will run straight to disaster :
  • Issues with hygiene and pathologies
  • Depletion of natural resources
  • disastrous environmental impact

How to manage waste with utmost protection for the environment ?

Recycling is one of the levels of sound waste management. At Recyclis, we refer to the "good sense scale" (also called the "Lansink scale" to optimize waste treatment.


Level 1 : prevention

Producing less waste is the best way to protect the environment. For instance, choosing products also based on their packaging : i.e. purchasing bottles of 2l soda instead of numerous cans if you have a big family.


Level 2 : reuse

Why throw away your furniture, domestic appliances, books, clothes, toys or whichever object if others can still use them? Brocantes, physical or virtual second-hand shops as well as social economy associations are great alternatives. Some objects can also be reconditioned.


Level 3 : sorting and recycling

Sorting and recycling is the next logical step when the first 2 are not feasible. PMD packaging, paper-cardboard and the glass bottles and jars are sorted and recycled. Then, they are sent back to the consumption cycle as new products or packaging. Recyclis comes in at this level. Sorting and recycling also involve green waste (garden waste) which are turned into compost. Container parks also allow for the sorting and recycling of other types of waste.


Level 4 : waste incineration with energy recovery

Waste that cannot be reused or recycled can be used to produce electricity or heat. Furthermore, the various material recuperated after waste incineration are also recovered and recycled (clinker, ashes, scrap iron, salt, etc.).


Level 5 : waste incineration without energy recovery

Waste incinerators that do not produce energy are increasingly less frequent, thanks to the severe environmental requirements.


Level 6 : landfilling

Even though landfilling has improved, it still pollutes the soils and waterways. Landfilling also rejects a lot of methane gas, which is 25 times more harmful than C02, in terms of climate warming.


In our countries, these last 2 levels are increasingly less used as they provide very little value to waste and are disastrous for the environment.

The example above is to be read as follows :

1 ton of recycled aluminium, the equivalent of 67,000 cans of 33 cl, allows for :
  • the production of 265 bicycles
  • the saving of 2.4 tons of ore (in this case, bauxite)
  • the saving of 1m3 water, the equivalent consumption of 10 washing-machines
  • the saving of 27 MWh, the equivalent energy required by an A+ fridge during 129 years
  • the saving of 7 tons of CO2, the equivalent emission produced by a mid-size family car driving 45,000 km

For each type of material sorted by Recyclis, you will find hereunder an example of a produced object and the positive environmental impact caused by the simple act of sorting and recycling.
